The Women in Maritime Business Excellence Forum brought together professionals and executives from across the Middle East representing stakeholders from the maritime, legal, educational, logistic, and government sectors. The forum discussed the skills women need to succeed in maritime jobs. Participants stressed the importance of sharing experiences to support and guide women earlier in their careers, enlisting male colleagues as allies and raising awareness among children to break stereotypes.

The forum showed that effective investment in women in the maritime sector is the key to progress. The sector needs to educate and train women to fill skills gaps, including critical thinking, negotiation and strategic skills. Some participants suggested that the media could be more involved in raising public awareness of seafaring and maritime careers, and the round table addressed the issue of raising awareness of the sector beyond individual companies and networks. The action points and recommendations from the meeting were relayed to the International Maritime Organization, along with associated timelines and KPIs.
