1. FIATA comes to India

16 Feb 2018 : In September 2018 FFFAI (Federation of Freight Forwarders Association in India) would be hosting the first international Freight Forwarder’s conference in New Delhi – the FIATA World Congress. It would be the first time an international conference on Logistics and Freight Forwarding would be held in India.

2. PM to officially open PSA’s new box terminal at JNPT on Feb 18

15 Feb 2018 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially open the new container terminal built by Singapore’s PSA International Pvt Ltd at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) on February 18 through an e-launch from Ulwe village, a few kilometres away from India’s busiest container gateway. Modi will be in Ulwe on February 18 to lay the foundation for the second international airport to be built by the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), a joint venture between the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the GVK-led consortium, in Navi Mumbai.

3. Better port ecosystem to help boost India’s ease of doing business ranking: report

14 Feb 2018 : To achieve the ambitious target of having a 5% share in world exports and climb up the ranks in ease of doing business, India needs to address its port ecosystem, says a report commissioned by government think tank Niti Aayog. The report says that processes and operations across India’s ports are not standardized or uniform, costs and time for key processes are unpredictable and there is an unacceptable level of variation across ports as well as within ports.

4. Afghan companies licensed to operate through Chabahar Port of Iran

13 Feb 2018 : The government of Iran has issued licenses to 165 Afghan companies to invest and operate in the free trade zone of Chabahar port.“Among the 500 companies licensed to operate in the free trade zone of Chabahar Port, 165 of them are Afghan firms”.

5. Dubai-based port operator DP World has its sights set on building out India’s logistics network

13 Feb 2018 : India is set to experience massive shipping industry growth, so Dubai-based port operator DP World is looking into ways to get involved in logistics and transport infrastructure in the country. Speaking to CNBC at the World Government Summit over the weekend in Dubai, DP World CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said he was optimistic about India’s shipping industry.

6. Hyundai Mipo Develops Ballast-Free Ship Design

12 Feb 2018 : South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has developed a ballast-free ship design, which will be first applied to a 7,600m3 LNG bunkering vessel. According to Lloyd’s Register, this will be the world’s first ballast free LNG bunkering vessel. It was ordered by Germany-based Bernhard Schulte Ship management in late 2016 and is currently under construction to LR class at HMD’s Ulsan shipyard.
