The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has confirmed the safety of all 27 Filipino crew members aboard the MV Transworld Navigator following an attack by Houthi rebels. According to DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac, the Filipino seafarers are now out of the high-risk area and are all safe. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the crew, and the vessel sustained minimal damage, allowing it to continue its journey to a safe port.
Cacdac mentioned that the Filipino seafarers on the Transworld Navigator may opt for repatriation once they reach a secure port. He emphasized the importance of reuniting the crew with their families after the traumatic experience of being attacked by a Houthi drone in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen. The families of the crew have already been informed of the situation and are awaiting their loved ones’ return.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by seafarers in conflict-prone regions and highlights the crucial role of organizations like the DMW in ensuring the safety and well-being of Filipino migrant workers. The prompt response and communication from authorities have helped reassure both the crew members and their families during this challenging time.
