ABB has announced the acquisition of the shipping businesses of DTN Europe BV and DTN Philippines Inc., expanding its maritime software offerings. The acquisition includes ship routing software, analytics, reporting, and modeling applications, allowing ABB to establish itself as a market leader in shipping route optimization. This will complement ABB’s existing digital solutions and result in over 5,000 connected vessels.
Real-time weather route analysis is increasingly important in optimizing voyage efficiency and safety, making the DTN Shipping business a valuable addition to ABB’s digital offering. The acquisition will also bring around 85 employees, mostly based in the Netherlands and the Philippines, into ABB. Current DTN Shipping customers will benefit from ABB’s expertise in marine solutions, securing opportunities to increase efficiency, save fuel, and reduce emissions.
The acquisition further strengthens ABB’s focus on investing in digital solutions that support decarbonization and enable better resource efficiency, in line with the company’s goal of driving a more sustainable future through technology leadership. With the addition of DTN Shipping’s portfolio, ABB can now offer comprehensive digitalization for all fleet types and sizes, providing a unique offering of ship and travel services.
