Abu Dhabi Maritime and Al Seer Marine have unveiled the world’s largest 3D-printed water taxi, which is set to be implemented into Abu Dhabi Maritime’s water taxi service by 2024. The water taxi is made from 67% recycled materials, including 30% fibreglass and UV stabiliser. It is 11.98m long, with a capacity of 6.4t, and powered by two 15 kW electric thrusters. The boat is set to be unveiled at the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show in November 2023 and is recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest 3D-printed boat.

The agreement to implement the water taxi follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Al Seer Marine and AD Ports Group at the last Abu Dhabi International Boat Show in November 2022. The MoU was based on cooperation in maritime-related developments, including the introduction of “state-of-the-art boats”. Abu Dhabi Maritime, a subsidiary of AD Ports Group, was established in May 2020 and launched its online booking platform for public water transport in March 2023. Reports indicate that the 3D-printed water taxi is set to be implemented into the water taxi platform by 2024.

Al Seer Marine expressed its goals on Instagram, stating that the milestone of creating the world’s largest 3D-printed boat is a call to action for the industry to adopt greener technologies. The company also mentioned that intelligent large-scale 3D printing production will be integrated into further projects. The water taxi is expected to set a precedent for the future of transportation worldwide by promoting innovation and sustainability.
