Kattupalli Port in India has a master plan that includes permission to add five berths with a total quay length of 1,900 meters. Currently, three of these berths are already developed and in operation, with berths 1 and 2 used for container handling, project cargo, and roll-on-roll-off (Ro-Ro) cargo, and berth 3 as a multi-purpose berth for the handling of general cargo and non-dangerous liquid goods. The port currently has the capacity to handle 1.2 million teus per year and was acquired by APSEZ in June 2018 for 1,950 billion.
The remaining two approved berths, Berth No. 4 and Berth No. 5, are to be developed by Marine Infrastructure Developer Pvt Ltd (MIDPL), 97 percent owned by Adani Kattupalli Port Pvt Ltd, a unit of APSEZ. Additionally, Berth No. 3 will be converted into a container berth, boat berths, harbor boat facilities, and associated reserve yard facilities, with plans to dredge port areas and fairways to unlock potential for container, liquid, and bulk cargo businesses. The proposed expansion will allow for all berths to be multi-purpose, maintaining a previously approved capacity of 24.65 million tonnes.
APSEZ states that the proposed expansion of Kattupalli Port will provide flexibility to accommodate both existing and planned berths as multi-purpose, and has significant potential for container, liquid, and bulk cargo businesses.
