India Sends 90 Tonnes of APIs to Cuba as Humanitarian Assistance

Nine 'Made in India' Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) have been sent to Cuba from Mundra Port as part of India's humanitarian assistance. The consignment weighs 90 tonnes and will be utilized by Cuban drug manufacturers to produce essential antibiotics for chronic communicable diseases. This aid reinforces India's role as the 'pharmacy of the world', highlighting the strong ties between the two countries. India has provided disaster relief to Cuba in the past, including during the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, India has provided financial assistance to Cuba in various sectors such as agriculture, agro-food, and renewable energy.

Nine ‘Made in India’ Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) weighing 90 tonnes have been sent to Cuba from Mundra Port as part of India’s humanitarian assistance. These APIs will be used by Cuban drug manufacturers to produce essential antibiotics in various forms for treating chronic communicable diseases.

The Ministry of External Affairs official highlighted that this assistance solidifies India’s position as the ‘pharmacy of the world’ and demonstrates the country’s commitment to its longstanding friendship with Cuba. In the past, India has provided disaster relief to Cuba after hurricanes and during the Covid-19 pandemic.

India has also supported Cuba by supplying rice on a short-term credit basis and extending five Lines of Credit totaling $243 million for projects in agriculture, agro-food, and renewable energy sectors. These efforts contribute to the strengthening of the bond between the two countries and showcase India’s continued support for Cuba in times of need.
