Kind-hearted skaters in Bahrain are gathering for the ninth Annual Charity Christmas Ice-Skating event organized by St Christopher’s Cathedral to raise funds for the Mission to Seafarers. The event, taking place at the Funland Ice Rink near the Bahrain National Museum, has become a beloved tradition for many, attracting both familiar faces and newcomers each year. Last year, around 80 skaters participated, raising BD185 for the cause, and this year they aim to surpass that amount with increased social media promotion.
The cost to participate in the event, which includes skate hire, is BD5 per person or BD15 per family, payable at the door. All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the Mission to Seafarers’ initiatives, such as providing gift packages for seafarers during special occasions like Bahrain National Day, Christmas, and New Year. The charity organization offers practical, emotional, and spiritual support to the 1.5 million seafarers worldwide who work tirelessly to transport goods across the globe.
In Bahrain, the Mission to Seafarers has been assisting seafarers for over 25 years, providing services such as ship visits, emergency assistance, advocacy for seafarers’ welfare, and a center at the Khalifa Bin Salman Port where sailors can relax and access various amenities. The organization also offers support in labor disputes, legal advice, mental health counseling, and helps seafarers stay connected with their families. Skaters are encouraged to wear festive attire and bring snacks and warm drinks to the event.
