Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has offered India use of the country’s ports in Chattogram and Sylhet, claiming it would improve connectivity and improve people-to-people contacts in the region. Chhattogram Port is a major seaport in Bangladesh, strategically located due to its proximity to the north-eastern states of India.
“India can use our Chattogram and Sylhet ports if it wants,” the Dhaka Tribune newspaper quoted Prime Minister Hasina as Ram Madhav of the India Foundation visited her at her Ganabhaban official residence on Sunday.
Prime Minister Hasina said the move would increase regional connectivity and improve people-to-people contacts.
During her interactions with Madhav, Hasina also conveyed her greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the report said.
Madhav appreciated the socio-economic progress in Bangladesh under Hasina’s leadership.
“Bangladesh and India have an excellent friendship as neighboring countries and hope this relationship will continue in the future,” he was quoted as saying in the report.
