Four bodies were discovered on Wednesday inside the sunken wreck of a yacht owned by the wife of British tech magnate Mike Lynch, according to sources involved in the rescue operation. The victims’ identities were not immediately disclosed by authorities, but it was reported that Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter were among the deceased. The yacht, named Bayesian, was carrying 22 people and was hit by a powerful storm off the coast of Sicily.
Specialist rescuers have been working tirelessly to recover the bodies trapped inside the submerged yacht, which is lying on its side at a depth of around 50 meters. Despite the efforts of divers and the deployment of a remotely operated vehicle, the challenging conditions have made it difficult to access the cabins where the victims are believed to be located. The cause of the yacht’s rapid sinking remains a mystery, as witnesses recount how the luxury vessel went down within minutes.
Lynch, known as Britain’s Bill Gates, had recently celebrated his acquittal in a U.S. fraud trial and had invited friends to join him on the yacht. The tragic incident also claimed the lives of other prominent individuals, including Judy and Jonathan Bloomer, and lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo. The coast guard is conducting investigations and questioning survivors to understand the circumstances surrounding the disaster, which has left the maritime community in shock.
