United Launch Alliance (ULA) and Bristol Harbor Group Inc. (BHGI) are partnering to develop a roll-on/roll-off barge for ULA’s Vulcan Centaur missiles. The manned barge will operate in both river and marine waters and is expected to be launched in July 2023 following a test fire later this week. ULA has been developing its Vulcan Centaur missiles since 2014 and BHGI will work with them to advise on the search for shipyards and oversee the construction of the transport ship.
BHGI has experience in the aerospace industry, having worked with the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Marine Design Center PEGASUS. BHGI helped with the expansion of the PEGASUS from 260ft to 310ft to accommodate larger transports. The PEGASUS transported structural test assemblies and the new core stage for NASA’s space launch system. In addition to advising on the project, BHGI will help with the construction and development of the barge for ULA’s Vulcan Centaur missiles.
