A cargo vessel named MV Jerlyn Khatness sank off the waters of Northern Samar, resulting in at least five crew members missing and 10 others being rescued. The incident occurred on Monday, with the vessel loaded with cement sinking in the waters off Balicuatro village in Lavezares town. The sinking was attributed to rough sea conditions and being struck by large waves while en route from Naga City, Cebu to San Jose, Northern Samar.

Search and rescue operations are currently underway to locate the missing crew members, with assistance from nearby vessels. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has urged mariners to report any sightings of the missing crew or debris to the nearest Coast Guard station. Additionally, ships and watercraft transiting Northern Samar have been advised to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety in the area.

The MV Jerlyn Khatness, a 31-year-old vessel built in 1993 with a gross tonnage of 199, has become the focus of rescue efforts following its sinking. The PCG’s Northern Samar station provided updates on the situation via Facebook, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to locate the missing crew members and ensure the safety of maritime traffic in the region.
