The Carnival Magic, a large cruise ship, sustained damage after being pushed into the dock by heavy weather in Jamaica. The ship remained in Jamaica as an expert team assessed the damage, which included dents and scrapes along the starboard side. The captain attributed the incident to strong winds and swells.
Passengers were disembarking for tours in Ocho Rios when the weather worsened, causing the ship to rock back and forth along the pier. For safety reasons, the ship had to sail out to sea and was unable to dock at an alternate pier due to another cruise ship occupying it. The shore team made arrangements for stranded passengers, who were eventually bused to a new pier to rejoin the cruise ship.
The weather front also affected other cruise ships in the area, with three others unable to dock in Cozumel, Mexico. The Carnival Magic remained in Jamaica for inspections and had to skip a planned port call in Grand Cayman. The ship eventually departed Jamaica and is heading to Bimini before returning to Florida.
