Korean shipbuilding and maritime organizations, including HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Hyundai Marine Solution, have formed a partnership to develop a digital maritime training program. The program will be based on extended reality (XR) and will be established at Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Digital Convergence Center in Ulsan, South Korea. The companies will create a virtual reality representation of ships using 360-degree footage and 3D CAD models, and develop ship trial content to enhance crew education and training services.
The collaboration aims to create a realistic ship education and training system that will enable customers to quickly adapt to changes in onboard operating systems, such as digitalization and decarbonization. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering plans to develop advanced maritime training content by integrating its digital twin solution, HiDTS, with KR’s ship familiarization education and training platform, KR-Real 360. Hyundai Marine Solution will provide the training content.
The partnership is seen as an important step in developing a solution applicable to shipyards and shipping companies, leveraging KR’s capabilities in XR technology and Hyundai’s expertise in ship designing and verification. This collaborative effort is expected to have a significant impact on the maritime industry.
