Danish Shipping and the Ukrainian trade union Marine Transport Workers’ Trade Union of Ukraine (MTWTU) have reached a collective agreement that will cover Ukrainian officers working on Danish-flagged ships. The agreement, effective from October 1, ensures that Ukrainian seafarers under the Danish International Ship Register (DIS) will receive fair salaries, compensation, and access to union services, legal support, medical benefits, and educational and social initiatives. The agreement is the result of several months of negotiations between the two parties. Additionally, an agreement for ordinary Ukrainian seafarers is expected to be concluded soon.

Previously, only foreign seafarers from the Philippines and India were covered by DIS. The agreement for Ukrainian seafarers closely aligns with these existing agreements while allowing for flexibility to maintain individual terms of employment. Danish Shipping is proud to have kept many Ukrainian seafarers employed during a challenging time for Ukraine. The Director of Labour Market, Recruitment, and Education at Danish Shipping, Anne Windfeldt Trolle, expresses her anticipation for the collective agreement to also cover ordinary Ukrainian seafarers in the near future.
