A 58,800 dwt Supramax bulker, Lycavitos, operated by Helikon Shipping Enterprises, was fired on by Houthi missiles as it transited the Gulf of Aden, causing minor damage to the vessel. The incident occurred 85 nautical miles southeast of Aden, with no reported crew casualties or injuries. Despite the damage, the vessel continued its journey and is heading for Suez in Egypt via the Bab al-Mandeb strait. The Houthi military spokesman confirmed the attack and stated that the UK vessel had been hit.

The attack on Lycavitos is seen as a response to the American-British aggression on the Houthi’s country and their support for the Palestinian people. The UK Marine Trade Organisation reported the attack and highlighted the repeated operations to degrade the Houthi’s military capabilities in the region carried out by UK and US forces. However, despite these efforts, attacks in the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea area have persisted.

The latest attack on Lycavitos comes after US forces intercepted a vessel delivering arms to Yemen, which was carrying a range of military components. Despite the minimal damage to the vessel, the incident highlights the ongoing conflict in the region and the impact on international shipping and commerce.
