Dry dock upgrades will create 10 suites
Silversea Cruises, the luxury line of Royal Caribbean Group, has detailed several upcoming upgrades for the 200 guests Silver Effortwhich will enter dry dock at San Giorgio del Porto Shipyard in Genoa, Italy, on April 3, 2023. The addition of 10 suites reflects high demand for the ship’s largest cabins.
Six suites, including two master suites and four signature suites, will be built on Deck 8, where an unused helicopter hangar is currently located.
On Deck 5, the ship’s medical center will be converted into four classic verandah suites, and the medical facility will move to the space occupied by the ship’s casino on Deck 4. Silversea said the removal of the casino will allow the shipping company to build four crew cabins capable of accommodating seven crew members.
Silver Effort, designed to polar class PC6 specifications, was originally built for Crystal Cruises at MV Werften shipyard in Stralsund, Germany. The ship that was launched in 2021 was Sold to Royal Caribbean Group in 2022 for $275 million after Crystal Cruises suffered a financial meltdown as a result of the pandemic.
The ship was commissioned in November 2022 under the Silversea Cruises brand with a debut season in Antarctica. The ships naming, off Crystal Endeavor To Silver Efforttook place on November 19, 2022 in the Lemaire Channel off mainland Antarctica, one of the region’s most popular cruise destinations.
Two new suite categories
Silver Endeavors The new master suites offer cruisers 1,163 square feet of opulent living space plus 270 degree views. Suites feature spacious living and dining areas, separate bedrooms, walk-in closets, and bathrooms with walk-in showers. Porches will measure 312 square feet.
The four new Signature Suites will range in size from 721 to 850 square feet with open plan living and dining areas, bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, floor to ceiling windows for expansive ocean views and verandas up to 269 square feet.
Four new Classic Veranda Suites offer 356 square feet, 52 square foot verandas and an array of amenities that mirror the line’s existing Veranda Suites. Additional crew space to be created from the existing casino will allow the ship to expand its expedition team to 22.
Other improvements to be completed during dry dock include the addition of handcrafted Lalique crystal slabs at La Dame, Silversea’s French restaurant.

With our guests’ cruising experience in mind, we are expanding their range of accommodation options by introducing two new suite categories, enriching a selection of public venues and accommodating additional crew to maintain one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios in the industry.”
Plans for the summer season
After the ship’s dry dock Silver Effort will make two voyages to the British Isles and Iceland before embarking on her first Arctic season which begins June 3rd.
From May 7th to 20th, the ship will sail from Portsmouth, England to Reykjavik, Iceland, calling at ports on the Isle of Mull, the Hebrides, the Isle of Skye, Scotland, and Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland, among others. From May 20th to June 3rd, the expedition ship will make a round trip from Reykjavik, visiting ports such as Flatey Island, Vigur Island, Akureyri and Seydisfjördur.
Nine Arctic cruises are planned for summer 2023 and will cover many of the polar region’s most remote destinations, including Pond Inlet, Cape York and Qaanaaq.
