Sunil Paliwal, Chairman of the Chennai Ports Authority, stressed the historical importance of the Port of Chennai and the role it has played in promoting international cruise tourism in India. With the modernized cruise terminal and various facilitation measures by the central and state governments, as well as the active support of ship agent JMBaxi & Co. and other authorities, Chennai port attracts more such cruise ships.

MV SILVER SPIRIT, cruise ship flying the Bahamas flag, entered the port of Chennai on 03/14/2023 with 411 crew and 480 passengers from Phuket, Thailand and embarked for Trincomalee, Sri Lanka on 03/15/2023.

India Tourism traditionally greeted cruise passengers with garlands and information leaflets.

The tour operators arranged for the passengers to visit Santhome Basilica, St. Fort George Museum, Kapaleeswarar Temple, Government Museum, Victoria Hall, Marina Beach and Kanchipuram.
