The Holland America Zaandam cruise ship made its inaugural call to port in Corner Brook, Newfoundland & Labrador. The ship had previously visited Corner Brook on August 2 but did not dock at the port. The ship will make another visit to Corner Brook in September, along with stops in St. Anthony and St. John’s. The Zaandam carried over 1,400 passengers and 600 crew members. The arrival of the Zaandam is part of a booming cruise ship season in Corner Brook, with a total of 29 ships expected to dock at the port by the end of the season. The cruise industry brings economic benefits to the community and is well appreciated. Captain Michiel Willems of the Zaandam expressed excitement about visiting new destinations, although he doesn’t always have the chance to explore them.
