Seatrium and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) in Singapore have recently launched a Digital Learning Lab, aimed at becoming a premier educational and innovation hub for the marine and offshore energy industry. The lab offers students a dynamic and immersive learning environment, focusing on practical skills development in energy and engineering, technological literacy in digital advancements, and hands-on learning experiences that emphasize active engagement and problem-solving. The curriculum includes courses on Digital Yard Technology Applications, 5G Marine Use Cases, and AI applications, with a particular focus on incorporating digital twin technologies to provide students with real-life industry problem-solving experiences.
In conjunction with the opening of the Digital Learning Lab, Seatrium and ITE have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining objectives for the next five years. These objectives include expanding learning opportunities in marine digital technology for Higher Nitec students and Work-Study Diploma trainees, offering internship placements for Higher Nitec students, and providing local and overseas industry attachments for staff to support their professional development. ITE will also offer certification courses to upskill Seatrium’s workforce in digital technologies, robotics, and sustainability, with the goal of training up to 4,500 students by 2027.
As part of their partnership, Seatrium has committed to donating S$1.2 million over the next four years to the ITE Education Fund, benefiting students from low-income families. This initiative will provide financial support for over 300 ITE students annually from Engineering and Electronics & Infocomm Technology courses. The strategic collaboration between Seatrium and ITE aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in future roles within the marine and offshore energy industry.
