The US Coast Guard has confirmed that the repeal of Title 42, a public health order, has no impact on maritime migration policy. US maritime borders remain closed to unauthorized entry due to the dangers associated with irregular maritime migration. Title 42 allows the government to impose migration restrictions at US borders to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. In recent years, the US government has used Title 42 as a mechanism to expel migrants encountered at the US-Mexico border citing public health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the Coast Guard notes that Title 42 never applied to people intercepted at sea. Migrants intercepted at sea will be promptly repatriated in accordance with established policies and the Homeland Security Task Force-Southeast and Seventh Coast Guard District is closely monitoring the situation to prevent the spread of misinformation among diaspora communities. People who do reach US shores are subject to an expedited deportation process and are prohibited from re-entering the United States for at least five years. To combat irregular sea migration in the region, comprehensive plans are in place, including continuous monitoring of migrant flows and geopolitical, social, economic, and security factors.
