Dr Sanjeev Ranjan, Secretary, Ministry of Ports Shipping and Waterways, has been appointed Chairman of the National Shipping Board effective February 1, 2023.Dr Ranjan has been an IAS officer since 1985 and took up the post of Secretary of the Department of Port Shipping and Waterways on 30 April 2020. Previously Dr. Ranjan has held various positions in the Government of India and Government of Tripura including Secretary of MoRTH, Chairman of NHAI, Chief Secretary of Tripura, Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser to MoRTH, Shipping and Tourism, Joint Secretary to Ministry of Defense, Resident Commissioner of Tripura, Director at the Ministry of Heavy Industry, and District Judge and Collector of North Tripura District in the Government of Tripura. He has also served on the boards of a number of infrastructure, energy and tourism companies including NHIDCL, SCI, ITDC, OTPC, NEEPCO and the National Dairy Development Board.
The National Shipping Board is an advisory body to the Department of Port Shipping and Waterways on shipping and shipping infrastructure issues. The members of the National Shipping Board are elected/nominated by Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The existing members of the National Shipping Board were reconstituted in August 2022 for a period of two years.
