The Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) launched Drone and EV Cluster (DRoEV) in Belagavi on Friday to position the district bordering Maharashtra as a hub for finished and EV manufacturing. The district is also home to a Special Economic Zone for the Aerospace Industry (SEZ).

The DRoEV cluster aims to attract global investors and be part of the global supply chain. The cluster is also an excellent opportunity to showcase local talent, intellectual property, products and innovations while creating a favorable manufacturing environment for the drone and EV industry, said KDEM, an independent organization made up of top business leaders and government officials , in a press release. The Section 8 organization aims to act as a knowledge bridge between the state government and the industry ecosystem to accelerate the development of the country’s IT, BT and S&T sectors.

We want to enable an enabling ecosystem for manufacturing and invite global investors to interact with local industries and partners and be part of the global supply chain. Belagavi is a great location and this cluster will help develop an ecosystem for the sector with its proximity to industrial centers, R&D centers, educational institutions and global networks for the nation,” said KDEM Chairman BV Naidu. “Approximately 30,000 students (engineers and ITI) who faint annually, local talent is another key factor that will propel new-age industries like drones and electric vehicles in the years to come.”

Head of IT/BT Department and Associate Executive Secretary EV Ramana Reddy said emerging clusters outside of Bengaluru, such as Hubli-Dharwad-Belagavi, are having a greater impact; The Belagavi region has been instrumental in attracting engineering companies alongside the region’s high talent pool, entrepreneurship and skilled workforce. The government has also made efforts to accelerate the cluster’s growth in other areas. “We are pleased that the industry is interested in this. These initiatives, along with industry support, will help digitize our nation and harness the limitless potential of the state’s digital economy to transform people’s lives.” KDEM CEO Sanjeev Gupta said that the Indian electric vehicle and drone market is in expected to grow at a CAGR of 50% and 10% respectively over the next five years and Karnataka will play a leading role in this growth. “KDEM enables this growth by creating a new cluster and aligning DRoEV 2023 in the already existing industrial clusters in Belagavi will benefit from the multiplier effect of this new project.”
