In an effort to address the shortage of maritime engineers and support the maritime industry’s transition towards sustainability, DTU and MARTEC are collaborating to establish a new maritime engineering programme set to begin in August 2025 in Frederikshavn and Copenhagen. The goal is to provide the industry with a qualified workforce capable of driving the transformation towards greener practices, with a focus on retrofitting, automation, and digitalization. Danish Maritime’s CEO, Jenny Braat, highlights the increasing demand for engineers skilled in designing sustainable ships and advanced maritime vessels.
The maritime industry is undergoing a revolution in green technology, creating a heightened need for highly skilled maritime engineers. Danish Maritime aims to increase admissions and training opportunities to meet this demand and support the industry’s transition towards sustainability. Pia Ankerstjerne, Director of MARTEC, emphasizes the importance of developing engineers capable of designing advanced fishing vessels, service vessels, defense ships, and environmental vessels to meet the industry’s evolving needs. The new programme is expected to expand total admissions, surpassing the capacity of existing programmes.
