ERMA FIRST, a sustainable maritime solutions provider, has received recognition from DNV for its BLUE CONNECT system. DNV has categorized BLUE CONNECT as an energy-saving device (ESD) and has verified its positive impact on vessel Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) performance. By plugging into an onshore power supply and shutting down its diesel auxiliary engines while berthed, a vessel equipped with BLUE CONNECT can save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in port, improving its overall carbon intensity per transport work. The solution also helps ship operators comply with port regulations for the use of shore power at berth.

ERMA FIRST, known for its ballast water treatment systems, developed BLUE CONNECT to go beyond regulatory compliance and provide environmental benefits. It improves air quality, reduces noise and vibrations in ports, and minimizes impacts on aquatic fauna. The system is suitable for retrofit and newbuild installations and can be tailored to different vessel types. This recognition from DNV is seen as a significant milestone for ERMA FIRST and its efforts to support the decarbonization of shipping and protect coastal environments.
