Karen Avelino, an Executive Committee member of INTERMANAGER, is set to run the London Marathon on April 21, 2024, alongside her daughter Karmel Avelino, to raise funds for the Seafarers’ Charity. Avelino, who is the executive director of business development and shipping at Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC), has extensive experience in the maritime industry and is passionate about supporting Filipino seafarers. This will be the mother-daughter team’s first international marathon, having previously run several races in the Philippines.

The London Marathon, a prestigious event covering 26.2 miles and passing iconic landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge, holds special significance for Avelino and her daughter. Avelino’s long tenure at PTC, the largest crew management company in the Philippines, has given her a deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication of Filipino seafarers. The pair is seeking sponsorship to meet the marathon’s charity entry requirements, with funds going towards supporting maritime professionals through the Seafarers’ Charity.

Avelino’s decision to run the London Marathon for the Seafarers’ Charity reflects her commitment to giving back to the seafarers she serves through her work at PTC. With over 80,000 Filipino seafarers under their management, Avelino and her daughter are determined to raise awareness and support for these essential workers. By participating in this international event, they hope to show gratitude to the seafarers and contribute to the welfare of those who play a vital role in the maritime industry.
