Twelve Filipino men who were living aboard the MV Matthew, a ship apprehended last month for allegedly carrying cocaine, are set to be repatriated this week. The ship was seized by authorities in a joint operation involving the Irish Army Ranger Wing. Plans are now being made to determine the future of the ship and the stranded Filipino crew.
To prevent incurring maintenance and berthing costs, officials are preparing to expedite the sale of the vessel if its owners do not come forward. Additionally, arrangements are being made to repatriate the 12 Filipino crew members who are currently living on board the ship. They could be flown back to their families as early as Tuesday.
The crew members are currently not allowed to leave the ship. The authorities are taking steps to ensure a smooth repatriation process for them.
