Stella Maris has introduced a financial resilience training program for Ukrainian seafarers and their families, covering personal finance, financial planning, income management, savings, and pensions. With potential benefits for 150,000 individuals in the maritime sector, the program is partially funded by Stella Maris UK and conducted in partnership with Stella Maris Ukraine, Ukrainian Catholic University, Business Incubator Group Ukraine, and others.
Due to the financial hardships brought on by the war, Ukrainian seafarers and their families have faced challenges with income loss, increased living costs, and added stress on mental well-being. Stella Maris Ukraine has taken proactive steps to restore the maritime industry, creating a supportive environment for seafarers and their families – including those affected by conflict-related disruptions.
By offering online courses through the financial resilience program, Stella Maris Ukraine aims to equip Ukrainian seafarers with the necessary financial skills to navigate their unique circumstances during and after the war. This initiative is viewed as a crucial first step towards rebuilding post-conflict resilience and fostering hope for a brighter future among seafarers and their families.
Beyond financial literacy, Stella Maris Ukraine is implementing various projects to support sailors’ mental health and financial well-being, as well as providing assistance to their families. This holistic approach aims to not only enhance participants’ financial skills but also boost their morale and confidence as they navigate the challenges ahead.
