Seaside LNG and Polaris New Energy have unveiled their latest LNG bunker barge, Clean Everglades, at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Wisconsin. The vessel, which has a capacity of 5,500 cubic meters of LNG, will serve as a sister ship to Clean Canaveral, the largest Jones Act-compliant LNG bunkering vessel. Clean Canaveral has successfully completed over 65 LNG bunker deliveries from Port Canaveral, Florida. The new barge was delivered six weeks ahead of schedule due to its efficient design and the expertise of Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding.

Seaside LNG had contracted Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding to build the LNG bunkering vessel as part of its efforts to expand its fleet of Jones Act-compliant LNG cargo vessels. In addition to Clean Canaveral and Clean Everglades, Seaside LNG also operates Clean Jacksonville, which was recently acquired by TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico. Polaris New Energy, a subsidiary of Seaside LNG Holdings, acts as Seaside’s bunkering company. The delivery of Clean Everglades will enable the expansion of LNG bunkering operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

The maritime sector’s demand for LNG continues to rise, with LNG vessel orders accounting for over 30% of the fleet order book. This is part of the industry’s efforts to reduce emissions and meet sustainability targets. Clean Everglades is equipped with four 1,375 cubic meter IMO Type-C tanks and utilizes a cargo handling system developed by Wartsila. It is classified as an Oceans Classed ABS barge. Currently, the barge will remain in the Great Lakes until the reopening of the St. Lawrence Seaway due to a workers’ strike on the Canadian side of the waterway.
