Taiwan has unveiled its first fully automated container terminal, which has a depth of 18 meters and a total length of 2,415 meters. The terminal boasts five deep-sea container berths and can accommodate four super-large container ships of 24,000 TEU each simultaneously. With the help of unmanned vehicles, remote control, and advanced technologies like IoT, 5G, and artificial intelligence, the terminal aims to boost operational efficiency.

Evergreen, the company behind the project, plans to combine the operations of the fourth and fifth container terminals and transfer some of them to the newly opened seventh terminal. This move is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions and improve container handling efficiency, according to an Evergreen spokesperson. The introduction of automated systems will streamline operations and enable the terminal to handle large quantities of containers more effectively.

Overall, the new container terminal in Taiwan marks a significant advancement in port infrastructure with its automation and advanced technology integration, promising enhanced efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
