Half Moon Bay Marina in Auckland has been recognized as the best boat-mooring and maintenance facility in New Zealand. The marina recently received the prestigious Marina of the Year award at the New Zealand Marinas and Boatyard Conference. This is the first time that Half Moon Bay Marina has won the top prize, after being highly commended two years ago. General manager Mark Hollier expressed his delight at the achievement, stating that it validates the hard work the team has put in over the past 25 years.
In addition to winning Marina of the Year, Half Moon Bay Marina also received a highly commended recognition in the Boatyard of the Year category. The marina’s recently expanded complex, which now accommodates 580 boats and employs 22 staff, was praised by the judging panel for achieving full maturity and operational excellence. Hollier mentioned that there is strong local pride for the marina in east Auckland, especially within the boating community, and they feel like an integral part of the community.
The accolades for Half Moon Bay Marina follow its attainment of the Five Gold Anchor status by the International Council of Marine Industries Association (ICOMIA) earlier in the year. This rating is a significant achievement as Half Moon Bay Marina is the only marina in New Zealand to reach this very high international standard. Hollier highlighted the hard work that went into achieving this status and explained that ICOMIA is an international organization serving the recreational boating industry worldwide. Additionally, Waiheke Marina received recognition for an outstanding initiative in construction at the NZMOA prize-giving for its environmentally conscious development.
