Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) have received approvals in principle (AiPs) from ABS for two new solutions that promote autonomous navigation and sustainability in the maritime industry. The first solution, called the Artificial Intelligence-based Smart LNG Boil-off Gas Management System (Hi-GAS+ AI CHS), aims to improve fuel efficiency and reduce cargo loss by providing real-time predictions of boil-off gas occurrence and optimizing operational strategies. The second solution, the Artificial Intelligence-based Autonomous LNG Fuel Gas Supply System (Hi-GAS+ SMART FGSS), supports control methods and adjusts to different situations, making it easier for crew members to operate LNG-powered ships.

ABS President and COO, John McDonald, expressed excitement about the projects, stating that they contribute to more efficient operations and enhanced safety. Seung-Ho Jeon, Senior Executive Vice President and CTO at HHI, emphasized the significance of these solutions in advancing efficiency, safety, and ease of operation for LNG vessels. Sungjoon Kim, Senior Executive Vice President and CTO at KSOE, highlighted that the AiP for the autonomous LNG fuel gas supply system demonstrates the potential for efficient LNG ship operation through increased reliance on autonomous functions. These technological advancements are expected to set new industry standards and contribute to a more sustainable maritime future.

In summary, HHI and KSOE have obtained AiPs from ABS for two innovative solutions that support autonomous navigation and sustainability in the maritime industry. These solutions aim to improve fuel efficiency, minimize cargo loss, and enhance ease of operation for LNG vessels. The approvals mark significant advancements in maritime innovation and are expected to set new industry standards while contributing to a more sustainable future.
