The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is set to host India’s largest National Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX-24) in Kochi, Kerala on 28-29 November. This event will coincide with the 22nd National Maritime Search and Rescue (NMSAR) Board Meeting and will involve a significant gathering of international representatives. The two-day exercise will focus on real-time simulations to enhance skills for effective Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, promoting collaborative efforts among regional and international maritime stakeholders.
With over 40 international observers from partner nations participating, the event aims to strengthen SAR capabilities and linkages. Themed ‘Enhancing SAR Capabilities through Regional Collaboration’, SAREX-24 is expected to set new standards for maritime safety in the region and beyond. The exercise emphasizes the importance of global cooperation in safeguarding lives at sea and advancing maritime security standards, showcasing India’s proactive role in fostering regional coordination for maritime safety.
The ICG views SAREX-24 as a reflection of India’s growing influence as a global leader in maritime security, particularly as the country ascends to the position of the world’s third-largest economy. This initiative not only highlights India’s commitment to enhancing its own SAR capabilities but also its dedication to contributing to global maritime safety standards. The event will demonstrate India’s leadership in operational readiness and regional coordination for maritime safety, reinforcing the country’s position as a key player in promoting maritime security.
