An Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ship successfully rescued seven Indian fishermen who were apprehended by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) near the India-Pakistan Maritime Boundary. The incident occurred on November 17, 2024, when the Coast Guard received a distress signal from an Indian fishing boat operating near the No-Fishing Zone. The ICG ship immediately responded and intercepted the PMSA vessel, persuading them to release the fishermen. Despite the PMSA ship’s attempts to retreat, the Indian ship was able to retrieve the fishermen safely.
Following the rescue operation, the Indian ship returned to Okha harbour on November 18, 2024. A joint investigation involving the ICG, Gujarat police, intelligence agencies, and the fisheries department was conducted to probe the circumstances leading to the incident. The Indian fishing boat, Kal Bhairav, was reported to have been damaged and sunk during the confrontation with the PMSA vessel. Fortunately, all seven fishermen were found to be in stable medical condition.
The ICG release stated that the distress call from the Indian fishing boat reported that the PMSA vessel had intercepted the Kal Bhairav and apprehended the seven crew members. The Coast Guard ship on patrol immediately responded to the call and successfully rescued the fishermen. The collaborative effort between various agencies ensured the safe retrieval of the fishermen and the investigation into the incident. The ICG ship’s swift action and coordination with other authorities led to the successful rescue of the Indian fishermen.
