Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has invested Rs 300 crore in new shipyards in Kolkata and Udupi, Karnataka, as part of a larger investment of about Rs 3,500 crore in various projects. The company’s Chairperson, Madhu Nair, shared these details during a tour of the CSL headquarters in Kochi. Nair also noted that the company’s net worth has increased to about Rs 4,500 crore from Rs 2,500 crore, due to ongoing investments.
CSL is involved in shipbuilding and repair within both commercial and defence sectors, and the managing director expressed confidence in the strength of all four verticals. The shipbuilder recently embarked on a capex program to construct a new dry dock and international ship-repair facility, with the goal of increasing capacity and execution speed. CSL is known for undertaking the construction of civilian ships and has orders from countries such as Norway and Germany.
The company has invested about Rs 2,800 crore in the new dry dock and international ship-repair facility, and expects top-line growth of about 12% year-on-year. CSL currently has five facilities in Kochi, Udupi, Port Blair, Mumbai, and Hooghly, and is the only shipyard with a dry-dock facility for the construction of large naval ships. Madhu Nair also expressed optimism about the manufacturing industry in India, stating that there is newfound positivity and the momentum can be sustained.
