Japan’s first LNG bunkering vessel, Kaguya, recently achieved a significant milestone by completing its 100th ship-to-ship supply of LNG fuel. This marks a pivotal moment as Japan’s inaugural LNG bunkering vessel, showcasing the country’s commitment to cleaner energy solutions. The vessel successfully refueled the car carrier Sakura Leader at the port of Mikawa in Aichi Prefecture, highlighting the efficiency and reliability of LNG as a marine fuel.
Launched in 2020, Kaguya is operated by Central LNG Marine Fuel, a joint venture company involving NYK, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, and JERA Co, among others. Since its completion, Kaguya has been at the forefront of Japan’s LNG bunkering business, utilizing the ship-to-ship supply method to deliver LNG fuel to various vessels. Currently stationed at the Kawagoe Thermal Power Station in Mie Prefecture, Kaguya plays a crucial role in promoting the adoption of LNG as a cleaner alternative fuel.
