King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah announced that it will be enrolling women in its maritime studies programs for the first time, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency on Saturday. In line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy and increase opportunities for women in various professions, the university will establish a dedicated agency for female students within the maritime studies faculty.

The initiative to include women in the maritime studies programs is seen as a step towards tapping into the potential of female talent in the sector, ultimately leading to increased efficiency and sustainability. Faisal Al-Thobiani, the dean of the faculty of maritime studies, expressed his belief that this move will help in expanding research and study opportunities in the field of marine surveying and transport.

By offering internationally recognized education and training in maritime studies, the faculty at King Abdulaziz University seeks to prepare Saudi professionals and contribute to the growth of the national economy. Al-Thobiani highlighted the importance of addressing workforce gaps in the maritime industry through increased female participation, in alignment with global trends and the goals set out by Vision 2030 to promote women’s representation in various industries.
