Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s biggest container port, celebrated World Environment Day with a series of initiatives aimed at raising awareness for environmental protection. As a responsible port, JNPA recognizes the critical need for preserving the ecosystem for future generations. The port authority launched impactful activities under the motto “Fight Against Plastic Pollution” to restore and preserve the fragile ecosystem.

JNPA organized various initiatives to celebrate World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5th, and promote environmental protection among its stakeholders, employees and the local community. Initiatives included the inauguration of a 100 KLD Wastewater Treatment Plant at Port Operation Center, a tree planting event in cooperation with HPCL, and launching a biodiversity illustrated book.

JNPA staff performed a street piece entitled “Plastic Pollution Solutions” to mark the occasion. Shri Sanjay Sethi, IAS, Chairman of the JNPA, cited sustainability as the core of JNPA’s operations and believed in the power of collective action to protect the environment. He reaffirmed JNPA’s commitment to protecting the environment and inspiring others to join them in this noble cause. The port authority is committed to sustainable practices and aims to reduce carbon emissions while increasing green space and improving biodiversity.
