Liverpool Seafarers Centre has launched its annual Christmas parcel appeal to spread some holiday cheer to seafarers visiting the port during the festive season. The charity is calling on individuals and businesses to donate items for gift parcels, which will be distributed to seafarers who may find this time of year particularly challenging while away from their families.
The centre’s chief executive, John Wilson, emphasized the importance of supporting seafarers who face long periods away from home and the pressures of their demanding jobs. As one of the world’s major ports, Liverpool plays a key role in facilitating trade routes spanning from the Americas to Asia, handling around 900,000 teu of cargo annually.
The charity recognizes the vital role that seafarers play in the global economy and aims to extend hospitality to those who work tirelessly at sea. Donations such as toiletries, confectionery, warm clothing, and stocking fillers are being sought to create gift bags for seafarers. Last year, the charity distributed 1,000 gift bags to visiting seafarers from around the world, providing front-line support to 50,000 seafarers passing through the Port of Liverpool annually.
