The maritime industry is making strides towards sustainability with the introduction of two new LNG dual-fuel ships, set for delivery in 2027. These ships will use liquefied natural gas (LNG), a cleaner alternative to traditional heavy fuel oil, and signify the industry’s commitment to more environmentally friendly fuel options. The ships’ specifications, intended use, and the parties involved in the transaction are still unknown.
In addition to the LNG initiative, the Asyad Group, in partnership with Vale and Anemoi Marine Technologies, is working on installing rotor sails on a Very Large Ore Carrier (VLOC) Sohar Max. This collaboration aims to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency, with an expected 6% reduction in fuel consumption and a decrease of up to 3,000 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions per ship annually.
These green initiatives in the maritime industry indicate a shift towards sustainability, with the hope of a cleaner, greener future for maritime operations. The industry’s commitment to environmentally friendly fuel options and the adoption of sustainable technologies is a crucial step in addressing the environmental crisis.
