Logistics infrastructure will be classified as a priority sector under the Gujarat Industrial Development (GID) Act, the state government said on Sunday.

With this, the Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB) will be able to work with the private sector to jointly take up large infrastructure development projects under the Private Public Partnership (PPP) mode.

Prime Minister Bhupendra Patel chaired the 39th GIDB board meeting in the state capital on Sunday.

An official statement said a “City Logistics Masterplan” is being finalized for each of the state’s 8 major cities, and the CM asked officials to ensure the planning is carried out taking into account the needs two decades from now. GIDB CEO Avantika Singh Aulakh presented in detail the progress GIDB is making under the City Logistics Masterplan, the statement added.

In a major decision, the state government decided to set up a Special Investment Region (SIR) near Navakhi to ensure integrated development in coastal villages. A consultant for the proposed project will be appointed soon, the official statement said. Officials from the Industry and Mining Department and other concerned departments provided an overview of industry’s water needs in 2050.

The Gujarat Island Development Authority Board Meeting was also held in Gandhinagar on Sunday. The statement added that Beyt Dwarka and Shiyal Beyt along the Saurashtra coast are being developed as tourism hotspots and that funding from this year’s tourism department budget will be allocated for the purpose.

Nearly 150 small islands lie off the coast of Gujarat and the Island Development Authority has been tasked with ensuring the overall development of these islands.
