In Palermo, Sicily, a tragic incident occurred on August 19th as a luxury yacht, the “Bayesian”, sank after being hit by a violent storm. Among the 22 people on board, one man died and six are still missing, including British technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch. Eyewitnesses reported the yacht disappeared into the waves early in the morning, with 15 people managing to escape, including a one-year-old child. The Italian Coast Guard confirmed that the missing individuals were of British, American, and Canadian nationality.
Following the unfortunate incident, divers are examining the wreck of the “Bayesian”, which lies at a depth of 49 meters. The public prosecutor’s office in Termini Imerese has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the tragedy. The yacht, owned by a company called Revtom Limited, was last tracked near Palermo and was known for its design and award-winning features.
Mike Lynch, a renowned British technology entrepreneur, was among those missing in the yacht incident. Lynch’s entrepreneurial journey began with groundbreaking research at Cambridge University, leading to the creation of Autonomy, the UK’s largest software company. Although Lynch faced legal battles in the past, he was acquitted of fraud charges in June and continued to operate in the technology sector. British officials are in contact with local authorities to provide assistance to those affected by the tragedy.
