The Maitre Setu, a bridge over the Feni River linking Tripura to Bangladesh’s Chittagong seaport, is expected to open for passenger traffic in August this year, a senior state government official said after CM Manik Saha announced the ongoing works on Saturday had inspected.
Construction of the bridge was completed two years ago, but road development works on the Bangladeshi side at Ramgarh towards the seaport are still ongoing. Likewise, the infrastructure development for the logistics center and special economic zone at Sabroom in South Tripura was also not put into operation. Officials said arrangements for loading and unloading cargo shipments at the Tripura site have already been made.
