The Mission to Seafarers in Singapore is gearing up to meet the challenge presented by the giant new Tuas Port. While the port is a boon for Singapore, its location at the western end of the island poses a significant challenge for the Mission. With Tuas being far from the Pasir Panjang and Jurong ports it will supplement, the Mission’s resources will be stretched to their limits.
Frederick Francis and Chris Jones, the new chairman and vice chairman of the Mission to Seafarers Singapore, highlighted the need for a third drop-in center to cater to the welfare needs of seafarers calling at the new port. The distance between Tuas and the existing centers in the other ports makes it essential to establish a new center to provide support and assistance to seafarers in need.
As the Tuas Port becomes operational, the Mission to Seafarers is preparing to expand its services to ensure that seafarers receive the care and support they require. The establishment of a new drop-in center will play a crucial role in meeting the welfare needs of seafarers navigating the challenges posed by the new port.
