Shipowner Mitsui OSK Line (MOL) and miner Vale are to retrofit rotor sails onto a capesize bulker.
The two companies have announced a partnership to install rotor sails on a 200,000 tonne bulk carrier engaged in a medium-term transportation contract with Vale. The ship will be equipped with two 35 mx 5 m rotor sails from Norsepower.
Norsepower’s rotor sails, combined with optimization technology, are expected to result in fuel and greenhouse gas emissions savings of 6-10% for the vessel.
The rotor sails are expected to be installed in the first half of 2024.
Tuomas Riski, CEO of Norsepower, attended a Seatrade Maritime News webinar on sustainable finance, shipping and technology last November. You can watch the webinar below.
