Mormugao Port Welcomes First Cruise Liner of the Season

The first luxury cruise liner of the tourist season, MV Empress owned by Cordelia Cruises, arrived at the Mormugao port in Goa. The ship brought 218 passengers and 572 crew members from Agatti port in Lakshadweep and later sailed to Mumbai. This marks the beginning of the cruise season at Mormugao port, with a total of 72 cruises expected to arrive, including 40 domestic and 32 international cruise ships. The second domestic cruise ship is scheduled to arrive on October 14, followed by the first international ship on November 11. Last year, the domestic ship by Cordelia Cruises was also the first to arrive at Mormugao port, bringing 785 passengers and 360 crew members.

The arrival of MV Empress at Mormugao port signifies the start of the tourist season for luxury cruises. The ship, owned by Cordelia Cruises, arrived from Agatti port in Lakshadweep and later sailed to Mumbai. This year, a total of 72 cruises are expected to arrive at Mormugao port, including both domestic and international ships. The second domestic cruise ship is set to arrive on October 14, followed by the first international ship on November 11. Last year, Cordelia Cruises’ domestic ship was also the first to arrive at the port after a two-season hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last year, Mormugao port saw 52 cruises docking, mostly domestic ones. This year, the port is anticipating a higher number of arrivals, with 40 domestic and 32 international cruise ships expected throughout the season. The arrival of MV Empress and the upcoming cruise ships highlight the revival of tourism in Goa and the gradual recovery of the cruise industry after the challenges posed by the pandemic.
