A search and rescue operation is underway in the waters off Puerto Rico for a missing crew member from the MSC Seascape cruise ship. The US Coast Guard is leading the search for the crew member, who was reported missing as the ship was making its way towards the Dominican Republic following a port call in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The ship’s captain has stated that the US Coast Guard advised the ship to maintain its course towards its next port call while the search operation continues.

The missing crew member is believed to be a male Mauritian national who works as a hotel cleaner on the MSC Seascape. The ship stopped sailing when the emergency alert was issued, and the ship’s lifeboats were lowered to begin the search. The US Coast Guard has deployed two rescue boats and a helicopter to aid in the search. This incident marks the second man-overboard incident in a week, with a male guest reported missing from Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Glory the day before.

The MSC Seascape is a 4,500-guest cruise ship sailing on a 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise roundtrip from Miami. The ship is known for its Robotron thrill ride, aqua park, and glass-floored bridge offering unique views of the ocean. The missing crew member is a male Mauritian national who works as a hotel cleaner on the ship, and the search and rescue operation is ongoing.
