MTN South Africa and ZTE Corporation have introduced Africa’s first 5G ultra-range maritime offshore coverage in Mossel Bay, South Africa. This groundbreaking initiative is set to transform maritime connectivity, benefitting local fishermen and boosting economic prospects in the region. The deployment of the ultra-range 5G network in Mossel Bay will provide high-speed, reliable internet access in previously hard-to-reach maritime areas, revolutionizing connectivity in the region’s waters.

This achievement marks a new era in maritime communication, delivering over 210Mbps throughput at 22km from the shore. The enhanced connectivity will benefit various sectors such as fisheries, shipping, tourism, sea rescue, and marine research. This advancement will improve operational efficiency, data transmission, and support marine ecological protection through advanced 5G services like live streaming and video applications.
