A tragic accident off the coast of Mumbai has claimed the lives of at least 13 individuals after a passenger ferry collided with an Indian Navy boat. The incident occurred on Wednesday when the navy vessel lost control during engine trials, leading to the collision with the privately-owned ferry, Neelkamal, which was carrying over 100 passengers.

According to the Indian Navy, efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining individuals, with 99 people successfully brought to safety. Eyewitness reports indicate that the speedboat struck the ferry, causing it to capsize. Passengers described the harrowing moments as water rapidly filled the vessel, prompting the captain to instruct everyone to don life jackets. One survivor recounted swimming for 15 minutes before being rescued.

The Neelkamal was en route to the Elephanta caves, a well-known tourist attraction located approximately an hour from Mumbai’s Gateway of India.
