A dredger named Ginger sank at the port of Mykolaiv, Ukraine, causing a spill of petroleum into the harbor. The incident occurred on January 15, and environmental monitoring is currently being conducted by local authorities. The State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine reported the sinking and noted evidence of worsening pollution from the wreck, with petroleum concentration in the water reaching about 15 times normal limits as of January 19. The inspectorate has called for pollution-abatement measures, but cleanup efforts have not yet commenced due to the ongoing recovery projects in the war-torn country.

The dredger, which was also known as the Severodvinskiy, was built in 1966 and had a size of 1,700 dwt. It was recently owned by a Canada-based firm. The sinking of the dredger has raised concerns about the environmental impact of the petroleum spill in the harbor, and authorities are working to address the pollution and its effects on the surrounding area.
